Working At Home, Doing What You Love To Do
I’ve said it for years, quoted from a book title “Do What You Love…” If you fully understand the concept of following your instincts, heart and dreams, you’re already on the path to success or you’re already there.
This saying doesn’t just apply to large corporations, high powered careers, franchising or retail stores. In fact it is more suited to a work at home business, a small biz start-up or a one-woman (or man) show.
Not only will success in your work at home job or home based business follow your passion-filled money making ideas, but in times of hardship (and I’m sorry but there are hardships and tough times in any business), your desire and interest will carry you through and out the other side into new growth.
How to Discover Your Passion for A Home Based Business Idea
I once thought this should be obvious to any introspective mind. A person who cannot easily define their passion is a person ill-suited for business or working at home. Boy, was I wrong! This is espsecially true of women – boomers and late bloomers in particular – as I have seen many women lost to themselves who, in a few short months, launch and succeed in their small business idea.
Here’s a little help for my lost ’sisters’…
- Think about the things in life that bring you joy. Is it your clothing? Shopping? Your kids? Crafts? Gourmet cooking?
- What do you enjoy doing most? When you get a little time to yourself, how do you choose to spend that time? What are you doing – other than watching TV or sleeping?
- Moms, who became pregnant young and never had much chance to discover their strengths and passions, may have to take a step back in time and remember their interests ‘way back then’. Think about the activities you enjoyed before you became a mom. Things that consumed your time on the weekends or after school.
Your answers to these questions give you a sense of where your passion lies. Your next task will be brainstorming ways in which you can turn one or more of those passions into a home based business. or work at home job.
Some Ideas for Work at Home Jobs
Cooking – If you are an excellent cook, you might turn your passion for cooking into a specialty catering business. Consider a business that delivers muffins and morning treats for corporate offices as a springboard to an excellent and unique idea. If you want to stay as far away from ‘corporate’ as possible, consider being a menu planner – in this job you’ll be providing other mothers with pre-planned menus and grocery lists that they’ll follow each week when cooking for their own families.
Children – If you love working with children and you just can’t get enough of them your best work at home job or business might focus on tutoring, daycare or after school activity co-ordinator. Consider ways to spin those ideas into something uniquely yours.
Health and Fitness – If you have a passion for health and fitness, consider becoming a personal trainer or weight management consultant. Put a unique spin on the service you offer by adding email follow up, group weigh ins, motivational phone calls, etc.
Crafting – If you love to craft, you can turn that passion into a wide variety of businesses. Make and sell your own crafts at craft shows or online. Have home parties where you sell your crafts or works of art. This works very well if you are making and selling jewelry or clothing.
Still Don’t Have Any Ideas?
You might have thought about your own passions and can’t ’spin’ them into a business idea. What are you supposed to do now? I’ve heard this from many people over the years – especially from women who have given their lives over to raising their children and discover that, once the children are grown, all they have left is a joy of watching television, movies or coaching soccer. If your interests and strengths are hard to peg into a work at home career you might consider creating your own website – writing daily as an educational site or reviewing the things you watch on television. AT times honest reviewers are offered paid positions by large marketing companies and freebie products in your niche.
