Country Sconces and Wall Lights

in Country Home Decor

Sconces (or wall lights) is a decorating tradition this generation has mostly moved away from. Yet I see sconces coming back in the larger homes, renovated farmhouses and even a few modern condos with decorators who have an 'eye' for lighting.

If you're into country decorating the sconces and hall lights available at places like Home Depot just aren't going to cut it. Everything is too shiny and modern, lacking in character and you can bet a few neighbors within a five mile radius just bought the same light!

Halls and Nooks Are Best Lit with Sconces

Mood lighting (in nooks and corners of large rooms) and functional wall lighting (most common in hallways, but also over large antiques in any other room of the house) is best represented by a sconce - or matching pair of sconces.

In a recent redesign of a friend's home we opted for a pair over the buffet - and they had to be country! I'll show you a few below and show you where to order them online.

We ended up with a pair of the two shown above. (Also available in flat black.) These were so reasonably priced we had to ask twice for the price! They look as though they came with the house which was Joan's top priority. (Click any image to find our source.)

The french country rooster sconce (above) was hard to resist - even at twice the price for two, so I just had to show them to you. Since we're talking about sconces and hall lighting, I have ordered one for a second bathroom light.

An alternative - which I liked better but was too elaborate for the space I had in mind, is below. It's the cream candle covers that set this wall lighting's flavor.

One Sconce That Was Hard to Leave Behind

Joan took a hard look at this one as well. It's not completely country, but it's not exactly modern either. I think she fell in love with those little shades...

At any rate, if you're shopping for sconces or hall lighting, or just want to give a little edge to that quiet corner in your room, click any of the images above and you'll see wide variety, sizes, colors, designs and pricing. All in all, a lot cheaper and a lot more interesting than what you'd find at your corner home renovation store for sconces!
