New or Vintage? Everyday or collectible? Which rooster salt and pepper shaker works for you?
As you’ll no doubt see below, this type of salt and pepper shaker has a million options. Made of ceramic for durable use, glass for everday, or plastic for some fun pool-side seasoning. Rooster salt and pepper shakers come in every size, color scheme, material, and breed of chicken. Two of the Plymouth Rock breed, for instance, would give you a beautiful set of black and white barred rooster shakers to adorn your dining table or French Country kitchen. Better yet, since roosters are known to fight (smirk) why not get a set that is one of each and include a hen?
In fact one rooster and one hen (for those of you not into chickens, this is one male and one female of the animal) shaker set holds the most promise for variety. Since we all eat far more salt than pepper anyway, the salt could go into the rooster shaker and the pepper in the hen.
Theoretically you could settle on just one pair of these (see the massive selection below), but once you bring one set into your home, I can pretty much bet you’ll want a few others. Before you know it, you’re a collector!
Of course the infatuation doesn’t stop there. These shakers turn into the desire for rooster mugs, prints, plates, rugs and tea towels – don’t believe me? Just have a look around my kitchen. And when you’re done there, check out the dining room – wait, there’s a few in the garden as well.
I can’t say enough about the rooster. He’s a sign of fertility, a symbol of living in the country, of early morning wake up calls (with no care of weekends) and just generally a beauty to behold.
Most rooster and hen sets are completely functional as a pair, some fitting together, and will make quite a commotion when placed on the dinner table! Some have glossy and colorful painted finishes – others are fitting with the French Country white glass. Either way, a variety of ways, your’re sure to find the exact pair for you.
Make decorating with roosters easy by picking up a set of painted rooster WALLIES. These are wallpaper cut outs pre-stamped with some gorgeous designs and a variety of sizes (25 in a pack, available in three different styles last time I checked). Stick them to glass or wooden canisters, corners of cupboard doors, as a decoration for a plain-Jane recipe book. I’m sure you won’t run out of ideas.
