Rooster Canisters for the Kitchen
My grandmother was a serious rooster collector. It began with salt and pepper shakers from the carnivals back in the 40s, but then she loved these colorful renditions of the barnyard rooster so much that she soon filled her kitchen with rooster canisters, cookie jars, magnets, mugs and anything else that was available back then. She had everyone in the family buying roosters for her at every birthday and Christmas too for many years.
Grandma did actually keep a rooster or two with her flock of hens out in the chicken yard – mainly for protection from the fox population, but also to keep spring chicks coming in.
Her favorite was a colorful Banty rooster that she swore looked the closest she’d ever seen to her country kitchen canisters.
