Make Country Paper Crafts
Are you a crafter or someone thinking about taking on a hobby in paper crafts?
By paper crafts I mean scrap-booking, card making, specialty folding or even personalized artwork made from a variety of papers and treatments.
In a few days I’ll post some of the designs I’ve made or found that are considered to be country crafted works of art using paper. Some of the projects are great for kids as well.
For now though I wanted to share some of my top tips for keeping the cost of paper crafting down to a bare minimum, in many cases, even free!
Free Paper Crafts (or nearly free)
Many of the basic materials for making one of a kind paper crafts can be incredibly expensive! Just walk into any major crafts store and you’ll see what I mean. All types of paper, with varying finishes, designs, corners, and cut outs – at outrageous prices. If you’re anything like me, you might have been tempted to buy one or two of those beautiful and fancy packages, all the while wondering if there wasn’t a better and cheaper way!
Well there is. I share some of my favorite paper-crafts-on-the-cheap tips with you in the sidebar (at right).
Paper Crafting Supplies on Auction
Since we’re talking about saving money, take a look at the deals you can get on scrap book supplies or any other paper craft supply in our country catalog.
All of our featured products sell on eBay – many are exclusive. Ebay has a strict privacy policy and all transactions are hosted on secure servers. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the variety and inexpensive supplies we’re showing in the store!
Beautiful Free Patterns for Paper Crafters
One of the biggest expenses of paper crafting can be the patterns we use. One way to save some money on the pattern end of expenses is to buy crafting magazines (again a perfect group expense or swap idea). But if you’re really earnest, you can easily surf the web for some great ideas.
One of my favorite online resources for scrap-booking information is my friend Deborah’s site. She really opened my eyes to the possibilities of this craft, I especially love the printable templates she offers.
At the end of the day, paper crafts can be fun and enjoyable for all ages, not to mention that they can turn into amazing works of art that everyone will love. Just remember, great paper crafts don’t have to leave you broke!

Save Money Crafting
My top two ways to save money when paper crafting, at any time of year!
Hoard Any Nice Scraps of Paper to Use Later
Hold on to any interesting and decorative, Christmas, birthday or holiday wrapping paper, cards and gift bags you come across. These pieces of paper, no matter how small, are excellent for paper crafting.
You can make specialty cards, collages, and even recycle these items into miniature gift boxes from these items.

You don’t have to reserve your new paper-saving habit to your own events either – showers, birthday parties, or any other gift-giving event at friend’s or family’s homes are a perfect time to scout for paper headed to the trash bin. If anything catches your eye, scoop it up and take it home.
A few other places to get great paper for crafting: old wallpaper books from paint and home decorating stores, off-cuts and sample papers from your local print shop and pictures from old magazines, calendars and greeting cards.
Cut Costs by Starting Your Own Crafting Group
If you’re doing this with children, you can start your own crafting group of moms and tots, you can buy your specialty paper supplies in bulk and split the cost amongst each of you.
Or try this – each week a different member of the group could bring the supplies (also bought in bulk) – rotating projects and costs always makes a group setting more versatile and affordable.
Buying in large quantities saves you money. Resource: You can see some country auctions for buying wholesale scrapbook supplies here.
