Farm and Barn Products and Supplies
in Animals on the Farm
While many raise animals for companionship and sport, others raise them for food. And just putting that food on the table can be costly - if you're not careful.
When you first start out farming you'll take anyone's advice on what you need or want for your animals. In truth, half the stuff that's sold online or in your country supply store is unnecessary spending. It really only takes the basics to keep animals healthy, happy and productive.
You might find that many products or farming supplies can be purchased via regular mail and catalogs much like the old days. But there are many online resources for farm supplies as well, so always shop around if you've got some time. This is an easy way to keep your farm bills down to the minimum and not go broke in the process of supplying food to your family or to the grocers.
You'll also want to consider shipping costs of any product you purchase through a catalog (they can be high for larger items). Finally, and I've been caught here before with this one, if you're ordering across the border be wary and aware of Custom and Duty fees.
Personally, I like to shop on ebay and buy quality, sometimes used, products from other farmers. We list quite a few farming supplies in the Country Store if you want to take a quick browse. Choosing a product in close proximity to you saves on those shipping costs.
